Mariam Moazzan

Mariam Moazzam is a recent graduate of Baruch College, where she studied finance and environmental sustainability. She is a first-generation college graduate, born and raised in Queens to Bengali parents.

At Baruch, Mariam was one of 15 selected as a Jeannette K. Watson Fellow, which

supported three summers of professional experiences in the U.S. and abroad. Her work has spanned refugee and asylum housing access with the International Rescue Committee; women’s rights and environmental justice in Malaysia; work with the United Nations in Switzerland; and carbon markets and agroforestry research in Costa Rica. She also conducted undergraduate research on carbon export in the Sargasso Sea and dendrochronology research at the Lamont-Doherty Lab, and currently supports research at Columbia and Tufts on an open, scalable carbon accounting framework. 

At Columbia’s M.S. in Technology Management program, Mariam hopes to continue exploring the intersection of technology, sustainability, and social impact, with particular interest in the environmental and socioeconomic impacts of emerging technologies, sustainable AI, and climate technology.
