Alina Arias

Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Alina Arias is a proud graduate of Lehman College, where she studied economics and mathematics and minored in actuarial mathematics. Alina’s academic journey was shaped by her family’s roots in the Dominican Republic and their deep commitment to education. At Lehman, she served as president of the Archimedes Club; she actively gave back to her academic community by working as a math tutor for the math department and the SEEK program, helping fellow students build quantitative confidence and discover their own potential. Her work across mathematics, economics, actuarial science, and data reflects her interest in connecting disciplines to better understand and solve real-world problems. Her time at CUNY was also marked by academic achievements, including Phi Beta Kappa induction, departmental honors, and several academic awards. With the Society of Actuaries professional exams in financial mathematics and probability already completed, her career goal is to drive data-driven decision-making in the financial and risk analytics sectors.

As a graduate student at Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies, where she is pursuing an M.S. in Actuarial Science as a CUNY Fellow, Alina hopes to deepen her technical expertise while using Columbia’s multidisciplinary environment to bridge quantitative theory with meaningful applications in financial and risk analytics. With the Society of Actuaries professional exams in financial mathematics and probability already completed, she ultimately aspires to become an actuary and use her career to combine analytical problem-solving, continuous learning, and mentorship.
