Nyla Brown

Narrative Medicine Program Representative

Nyla Brown is a graduate student in the Narrative Medicine program at the Columbia University School of Professional Studies, where she serves as the Narrative Medicine Program Representative and DEIA Deputy Officer for the SPS Student Government. In these roles, she works to strengthen communication between students and leadership while fostering a community where voices, stories, and perspectives are valued.

A first-generation college graduate from Ohio, Nyla earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Howard University. Before beginning graduate school, she served as a Program Analyst for the District of Columbia Government as part of the inaugural Pathways to Public Service Program, where she worked with data and policy initiatives aimed at supporting the well-being of local communities.

Nyla is passionate about mentorship, equitable access to healthcare, and the power of narrative to shape more compassionate systems of care. She plans to pursue a career in medicine, with a particular interest in addressing disparities in maternal and community health.

Outside of her academic and leadership work, Nyla enjoys exploring New York City, traveling, engaging with art in all its forms, and meeting new people. She believes that storytelling, curiosity, and connection are what make both medicine and life meaningful.
