Jonnel Doris, MPPA, MDIV

Jonnel Doris is the CEO of StartCare, the Nation’s oldest Black-founded, community-based healthcare and research organization of its kind. In just three years under Jonnel’s leadership, StartCare has launched workforce training, mental health services across the lifespan, community outreach, and evidence-based care for co-occurring disorders. For the first time in over 25 years, the Organization also opened a new location, expanding into the South Bronx.

Jonnel has also driven over $25M in programmatic and research awards for transformative care for marginalized New Yorkers and communities who face longstanding social and health inequities. Jonnel’s vision extends beyond traditional healthcare to include whole-person care focused on social drivers of health, namely housing security, food security, and economic opportunity. 

As former Commissioner of NYC Department of Small Business Services and the founding Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises, Jonnel brings a valuable perspective to StartCare’s holistic mission.
