Demaliyah McDaniel

Columbia SPS CUNY Fellow | Baruch College (Class of 2025)

Demaliyah McDaniel is a Clerical Associate/Timekeeper with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection. A proud Brooklyn native and first-generation college graduate. In June 2025, she earned my B.B.A. in Human Resource Management with a minor in Communication Studies from Baruch College, following completion of her A.A.S. in Financial Management at BMCC.

Demaliyah’s journey hasn’t been easy—She worked multiple jobs to pay her way through school and graduated debt-free. That experience taught Demaliyah resilience, discipline, and how to stay focused on long-term goals. Along the way, she discovered her passion for people and systems, whether it was through HR coursework or her day-to-day role managing timekeeping and payroll operations for city employees.

Demaliyah has always been intentional about growth. At CUNY, she joined student clubs, built strong relationships with mentors, and pushed herself to excel both academically and professionally. Demaliyah’s ultimate career goal is to become Deputy Commissioner/Chief Human Capital Officer at NYC DCAS, where she can make a lasting impact on the city’s workforce. At Columbia SPS, Demaliyah aims to strengthen her expertise in human capital management, expand her professional network, and use this Fellowship to keep building a career rooted in service, equity, and innovation. Demaliyah is enrolled in Columbia’s Masters in Human Capital Management program.
