Penelope Van Heems

Penelope Van Heems is a graduate student in the MSc in Sustainability Management program at Columbia University and serves as Vice President of Internal Affairs for the SPS Student Government. In this role, she supports coordination across the executive board and program representatives, helping strengthen communication, collaboration, and engagement within the SPS community.

Originally from France, Penelope brings an international perspective shaped by experiences living, studying, and working across Europe, Latin America, and the United States. Before joining Columbia, she worked in sustainability and social impact across both the private and nonprofit sectors, including at BNP Paribas’ CIB Sustainability Office and with Life Project 4 Youth, where she led the Youth Inclusion International Forum in New York.

She is particularly interested in sustainable finance, corporate strategy, and global development. Outside of her academic and professional interests, you’ll find her traveling, running, or trying new food spots with friends.
