VOLVOX: Making Narrative Medicine Happen Alumni Speaker Series

Deepening Dialogue in the Clinic:

Market Research on Intersectionality and Close Listening

with Derek McCracken, MS'16

A conversation between a patient and a healthcare provider represents a critical juncture in treatment. Time crunches, jargon overload, and cultural gaps erode trust, harming the relationship and ultimately the health outcome. Integrating narrative medicine principles into the spectrum of health analytics research is an upstream opportunity to clearer health communication. In this presentation, Derek McCracken will share a market research project carried out with colleagues on the Intellus Worldwide Clear Health Communications task force. Using audio narratives, the work emphasizes intersectionality, close listening, and narrative medicine with the goal of creating a more equitable form of health literacy.
