Sara Goddard
Lecturer, Sustainability Management; City Council Member for the City of Rye, NY
Sara Goddard is an educator, former elected official, and award-winning advocacy leader, focused on environmental sustainability, leadership, and climate communication strategies.
Goddard is currently a City Council Member for the City of Rye, NY. As the founder and former chair of the City of Rye Sustainability Committee, Sara was the architect of the city's inaugural Sustainability Plan, which serves as a blueprint for its sustainability goals. She also led a campaign against plastic pollution, resulting in the passage of a reusable bag law which was one of the first in the nation at the time and earned the group an EPA award and national recognition. It has since served as a model for other communities.
Sara is also a founding board member and current Chair of Sustainable Westchester, where she has played a key role in launching the organization’s clean energy programs, including New York State's first Community Choice Aggregation program.
Sara currently teaches leadership and equitable community change, for Cornell University’s eCornell Management program. She is also publisher of "Green That Life," a website offering insights into sustainability, climate action, and effective communication strategies.
In addition to providing advocacy consulting to organizations and municipalities, Sara’s civic engagement includes serving on the boards of several environmental and advocacy organizations.
Sara earned her MBA from Yale University, and a BA in History from Mount Holyoke College.
