Blake DiCosola, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Practice, Information & Knowledge Strategy (IKNS)

Blake DiCosola is an Associate Professor of Practice in Information & Knowledge Strategy (IKNS) at Columbia University. 

DiCosola’s research is focused on designing novel information and communication experiences that help people make more informed and socially responsible choices and decisions, particularly in digital or technology-mediated contexts. His research brings together theories and methods from multiple disciplines including social psychology, behavioral economics, and human-computer interaction to drive new discoveries in information science. His recent research has been published in The ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) and Psychology & Marketing. 

Before joining Columbia, DiCosola helped launch and grow a professional Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction + Design (MHCID) program at the University of California, Irvine, where he regularly lectured on User Experience Evaluation Methods. 

Outside of academia, DiCosola is a creative consulting leader who has more than 15 years of experience helping Global Fortune 500 clients such as Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, Barclays, Lloyds Banking Group, Novartis, Walmart and Mercedes-Benz embark on human-centric digital transformations.  He started his career at Deloitte Consulting in Atlanta, did a stint with Deloitte Digital in both Melbourne, Australia and Chicago before moving to London, United Kingdom to join Razorfish and later Publicis Sapient. He most recently relocated to New York City to join frog and Capgemini Invent as a Senior Director focused on Experience, Innovation and Transformation in Financial Services. He has also worked on other consulting contract opportunities with McKinsey and Google. His work on the A to Z of AI was recognized as a winner of a Webby Award in 2021.

DiCosola recently passed his oral defense for his Ph.D. from the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford, where he will be receiving his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Information, Communication, and the Social Sciences. He previously studied at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University (MS, Consumer Behavior) and the University of Washington (MS, Human Centered Design & Engineering). He is a proud graduate and valedictorian of NC State University (BS, Business Education), where he was also a Caldwell Fellow.
