Eric Tam
Managing Director, Corebridge Financial & AIG
Eric Tam is an executive in Risk Management and data analytics across the insurance and banking industries. As Managing Director in Corebridge Financial and AIG, his responsibilities include leading ERM Model Risk Management (MRM) team to validate all Investment and insurance models from Life & Retirement and Property & Casualty globally. The scope includes pricing and valuation models, and actuarial and statistical/Machine Learning models, as well as natural catastrophe and operation models. Eric has also built and manage offshore operations in Bangalore, India and Shanghai, China. Prior to dedicating in Model Risk Management in the second line of defense, Eric served in the AIG Science division bringing advance modeling to marketing, distribution and Japan insurance agency management to the modeling team in the first line of defense.
Eric has also created the AI governance framework for AIG, leading a cross functional team of legal, IT and modeling experts. He is also responsible for all MRM policies and practice and enforcement of MRM governance and reporting. In addition to the core responsibilities, Eric also created and maintained an internal Community of Practice connecting over 400 professionals to share best practice in model building and applications through seminars and internal website.
Prior to practicing in the insurance industry, Eric built and led analytical teams in the Consumer finance space. At CarMax Auto Finance (2003-2012), he was responsible for all Credit Risk Management including setting credit policies, interest rates, behavioral modeling, collection strategies, loss forecasting, as well as system and staffing analytics for the contact center operation. At Capital One (1996-2003), Eric led a team of statisticians and data analysts in building marketing and risk models for credit card, mortgage, and telecommunication products. He has also been responsible for regulatory reporting and meeting regulators in both his insurance and the banking roles.
Eric earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Statistics from University of Wisconsin-Madison and his B.Soc.Sc. from University of Hong Kong. He is active in various volunteering including for his passion in advancing education as a judge in the US/UK high school MathWorks Math Modeling Challenge, and as a Board of Director for CarMax Foundation in the past. Eric has also published and serve as a peer referee in top Statistics journals.
