Christine Matthews

Chris is a leading public opinion pollster known for her understanding of swing voters, particularly women. Chris has directed election-year panels of swing women voters since 2014. She has conducted political polling at every level and nationally, including for Super PACs supporting candidates for president and Congress. She worked with Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s 2018 re-election campaign and will be conducting research for his 2024 Senate campaign.

She writes a monthly opinion column for USA Today with Democratic pollster Celinda Lake and is frequently cited by national news organizations on a wide variety of topics. She is proud to have worked with organizations and elected officials who support democracy, civility and bipartisanship, and responsible governance.

Her advocacy work includes topics such as health care and well-being, children and family policies, energy and the environment, women in the workplace, education, and infrastructure. Chris and the team at Bellwether have conducted focus groups, in-depth interviews, surveys, and online discussions to really dig deep into the American experience in places that are often overlooked. Chris has a B.A. from Indiana University and a M.A.L.S. from Georgetown University and is a member of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR).
