Dan Mathis

Dan Mathis is currently Senior Advisor for Policy and Sustainable Housing at the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Developments. Previously he was a Policy Fellow at Next100, a think tank powered by The Century Foundation. He has a range of experience as a housing and community development advocate working in communities across the country. Before joining Next100, he helped establish the Center for Racial Equity at the Florida Housing Coalition, a statewide initiative aimed at addressing the legacy of discrimination in housing and closing the homeownership gap in the state.

Dan is a legal professional, urbanist, and scholar committed to creating and preserving social and economic equity in cities. His research explores the nexus of housing and climate change with a particular focus on federal disaster recovery efforts and climate adaptation policies. He uses climate disasters and extreme weather events as flashpoints to interrogate historical inequities by race and income in accessing safe and affordable housing in the United States.

He is a graduate of Florida A&M University, the Hough Graduate School of Business at the University of Florida, and the University of Michigan Law School.
