Dong Guo

Professor of Professional Practice in Sustainability Management, School of Professional Studies; Associate Director, Research Program on Sustainability Policy and Management, Columbia Climate School

Dong Guo is a Professor in the Professional Practice of Sustainability Management at Columbia University. Guo teaches Microeconomics and Policy Analysis for the MPA in Environmental Science and Policy at SIPA, as well as Sustainable Cities, Climate Risk and Scenario Analysis (with Satyajit Bose), and Sustainability Metrics: Data, Construction, and Use at the School of Professional Studies. Guo also serves as the Associate Director of the Research Program on Sustainability Policy and Management at Columbia Climate School, and formerly served as a senior advisor for recruitment at SPS, and as the director of the Earth Institute China Initiative. Guo is a non-resident fellow at the Asia Society Policy Institute in New York, and has consulted for Philips Co. and The State Grid Corporation of China on sustainability, among many other companies and governments across the world. Guo led research on the evaluation of urban sustainability, especially for Chinese cities, and co-edited the Annual Evaluation Report of Sustainable Development of China since 2018. Guo co-authored The Sustainable City, 2nd Edition (with Steven Cohen), and The Financial Ecosystem: The Role of Finance in Achieving Sustainability (with Satyajit Bose and Anne Simpson), both of which have been translated and published in China. Guo taught Statistics for Management and Quantitative Research Methods at Columbia, and Sustainable Finance at the School of Finance of Shanghai University of Economics and Finance as well as at the PBC School of Finance of Tsinghua University. Guo received his Ph.D. in Economics and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, MPA from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and BSc in Economics from University College London. Dr. Guo was awarded the 2022 Class of Asia 21 Young Leaders by the Asia Society.
