Terry Leitch

Chief Data Scientist, ruxton.ai

Terry is the Chief Data Scientist at ruxton.ai, a specialized machine learning firm. He has been engaged in a number of AI projects, most recently as the technical lead on the research into imputing race and ethnicity by using a combination of AI and machine learning techniques at the Social Security Administration.

He has significant experience with financial derivatives and stochastic processes that he utilized as he transitioned to risk management, starting at Boeing in 2001, where he was the first director of enterprise risk management for the company. Using his valuation skills he developed transfer pricing process for aviation equipment financing to help make the cost of customer financing transparent in the sales campaign evaluation. This process was utilized by the OECD’s Aviation Working Group to develop a subsidy agreement for international aviation sales campaigns and he licensed the technology to Marsh & McClennan as the basis for their AFIC financial insurance company. He has advised the Export Import Bank of the United States on their aviation risk and their risk transfer program.

Terry has managed the financial risk of insurance liabilities at Genworth Financial and AEGON International before, during,  and after the financial crisis.

He taught finance and risk management as adjunct and full time faculty at the Johns Hopkins Carey School where he was the faculty lead for hedge fund investing and advanced portfolio management courses. Other courses he taught at JHU included financial risk management, derivatives, and machine learning courses. Terry has also been a visiting lecturer in the University of Washington applied math department’s Computational Finance and Risk Management program.

Terry has a BA in math from the University of Chicago, an MS in Applied Math from Northwestern University, an MBA from London Business School, and a graduate certificate in Financial Engineering from Columbia.
