Barney Baldwin, Ph.D.

Barney’s career spans over three decades at the intersection of high-stakes software engineering, quantitative finance, and enterprise risk management. He began his technical path at Stony Brook Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where he developed systems for radiation therapy, including 3D image processing, computer graphics, outcome modeling, and robotics. He co-authored several papers, presented at conferences, and was the lead technology for a new three-dimensional radiation treatment planning platform developed under an NIH grant.

Subsequently, Barney held successively senior roles at SunGard, UBS, Credit Suisse, KBC Financial, First New York, and RBC. He developed systems for foreign exchange, derivatives market-making, structured products, order routing, low-latency trading, compliance, and market, credit, and technology risk management. He led these organizations through many major global projects, mergers, and industry initiatives. As managing director at MUFG, he managed multiple initiatives in operational, market, and credit risk, and drove transformation in risk management technology.

Today, as founder and principal of ModelVet LLC, Barney is building platforms for financial model vetting and LLM/Agentic AI governance. He enjoys sharing his experience at Columbia University, where he teaches classes on risk technology in the Enterprise Risk Management master's program.
