Duncan Micallef, SVP and Global Head of Total Rewards, PepsiCo, joins Dr. Edna Chun’s Transforming Total Rewards Class

Duncan Micallef, SVP and Global Head of Total Rewards, PepsiCo, joined Dr. Edna Chun’s Transforming Total Rewards class for a lively and engaging guest lecture on Market Pricing and the Battle for Talent. Reinforcing the key themes of internal equity and external competitiveness, Micallef shared the mission and vision of PepsiCo in terms of being consumer centric, raising the bar on talent and diversity, and integrating purpose into business strategy. He discussed Total Rewards principles aligned to PepsiCo’s vision that include differentiated rewards, equity, flexibility in design, and simplicity.

In providing an overview of the relationship between human capital strategy and total rewards priorities, Micallef explained some of the complexities in global Total Rewards management. For example, he discussed how global benchmarking guidelines established through salary surveys serve as reference points for local markets. He identified new developments in the TRS sphere that include the increased use of digitization in salary planning.

In further dialogue with the students, Micallef also shared how HR can foster enhanced manager discretion in compensation practices through clear guidelines and training. Duncan Micallef’s insightful presentation and engaging dialogue with the students illuminated key principles and practices in global Total Rewards management.
