Jo Giessler Weiss

Lecturer, Sustainability Management, ESG-Aligned Corporate Governance; Head of Global Citizenship, White & Case

Jo Giessler Weiss is the Head of Global Citizenship at White & Case, where she created and leads one of the first comprehensive ESG/Responsible Business initiatives at a large global law firm.  She oversees the operations of the Firm's global pro bono practice, legal education programs, charitable contributions, volunteer activities and environmental sustainability initiative. She is a member of the Firm’s Responsible Business Working Group, co-chaired by the co-General Counsel, as well as the core groups of the Business & Human Rights Interest Group and the ESG & Sustainability Interest Group, which are client-facing. She is also a member of the University of Dayton’s Human Rights Center Executive Advisory Committee.

Jo has extensive experience in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, as well as deep experience in integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) best practices into strategy and operations. Prior to White & Case she was Senior Vice President at Lehman Brothers, where she led the creation of the Firm's first global strategic philanthropy initiative, and served as vice president of The Lehman Brothers Foundation. She was Vice President of Advisory Services and a member of the Executive Committee at Catalyst, Inc., the leading global nonprofit on gender diversity in business. There she created the global advisory services practice, which helps leading companies recruit, retain and develop diverse talent.

Jo was also director of education and a member of the senior leadership team at the New York City Opera. She was a consultant at McKinsey & Co., and began her career in retail marketing at Standard Oil of Ohio.  She holds an MBA in finance from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
