SPS Student Government Now Accepting Nominations

As the new school year begins, the School of Professional Studies Student Government (SPSSG) is looking for new M.S. and M.P.S. students to fill vacant positions. The mission of SPSSG is to create a unified community for all students across SPS programs. Members of the SPSSG are elected by their peers to represent each master's program as well as the student body at large and to advocate for students before the SPS administration, faculty, alumni, and the greater Columbia University community.

There are two opportunities for interested students to be involved in SPSSG. The first is to self-nominate or nominate another student as an SPS Student Representative candidate. Student Representatives act as liaisons between students and the faculty/administration and serve to improve the quality of students’ academic, professional, social, and personal development while at SPS. The SPS Student Representative will also advocate for the incorporation of student opinions in the formulation of policies at SPS and be responsible for promoting and funding student-initiated programs. Nominations for Student Representative are open for fifteen M.S. and M.P.S. programs: Actuarial Science, Applied Analytics, Bioethics, Construction Administration, Enterprise Risk Management, Human Capital Management, Information Knowledge and Strategy, Insurance Management, Narrative Medicine, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, Nonprofit Management, Sports Management, Sustainability Management, Sustainability Science, and Technology Management. Please note that students can nominate and elect a representative only for their own academic program and only if there is a current vacancy for that program’s position.

The second opportunity is to self-nominate or nominate another student as a Student-at-Large candidate; there are currently four vacancies. Students-at-Large serve with the same privileges and responsibilities as Student Representatives. All elected representatives will be able to participate in one of the committees: Social, Career Design Lab, Alumni, or Community Building. Other leadership opportunities, including DEIA Ambassador and Public Relations Chair, are also options!

All nominations are due on Monday, September 19, by 11:59 p.m. ET. Access the nomination form here.
