SPS Student Government Hosts Toy Drive for New York City Toys for Tots

During the first three weeks of December 2021, the SPS Student Government hosted a virtual toy drive for the New York City branch of Toys for Tots. Students browsed a list of items by price range and selected a toy to purchase and donate. The toys were then shipped to the New York City Toys for Tots to distribute to local children.

Of 75 toys listed, including sports equipment, dolls and action figures, board games, and arts and crafts kits, SPS students fulfilled every item.

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. "The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens," reads the Toys for Tots website.
