On April 25, Columbia University Pre-College Programs, in collaboration with the United Nations, organized a special in-person event to celebrate International Girls in Information, Communication, and Technology Day at the School of Professional Studies (SPS) Career Design Lab.
Marked annually on the fourth Thursday in April, Girls in ICT Day highlights "the need to promote technology career opportunities for girls and women in the world’s fastest growing sector," according to the United Nations website.
The Career Design Lab event brought together Columbia SPS pre-college students with women mentors from the United Nations, academia, and beyond to meet and be inspired by each other. Participants discussed this year’s Girls in ICT Day theme of leadership, took part in ice-breakers, and engaged in hands-on activities related to science, technology, and innovation.
