Nasdaq's Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion Supriya Jha Visits Human Capital Management Class

Supriya Jha, Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Nasdaq, shared her insights on corporate social responsibility (CSR) with Dr. Edna Chun’s Introduction to Human Capital Management class on March 17. She shared the vision for equity and equality of Adena Friedman, Nasdaq’s President and CEO, who articulated “the need to level the playing field for entrepreneurs and investors of all ages, genders, and race” and promote “equal participation in the markets.” Supriya Jha also described several ground-breaking developments in diversity and inclusion:

Nasdaq’s listing proposal filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that would require most Nasdaq-listed companies to have, or explain why they do not have, at least two diverse directors, one who self-identifies as female and one of self-identifies as either an underrepresented minority or LGBTQ+. 

The comprehensive initiative on diversity and inclusion of the Business Roundtable (BR) and its focus on serving the U.S. and global economy for the benefit of all stakeholders. A recent report of the BR shared the commitment of 120 CEOs of leading companies to advance DEI programs and practices. 

Ms. Jha also described how Nasdaq is operationalizing the concept of the social enterprise through strategic diversity outcomes related to the five pillars of purpose and meaning, ethics and fairness, growth and passion, collaboration and personal relationships, and transparency and openness. Her engaging talk reinforced the importance of diversity and inclusion as an integral aspect of corporate social responsibility.
