Narrative Medicine Alumnus Lands Academic Job

Phillip Mitchell was a full-time actor in Seattle whose work as a medical actor sparked his curiosity in the practice of Narrative Medicine.

He enrolled in the School of Professional Studies' graduate program in Narrative Medicine in 2012, and that decision gave him an "entirely new career," as he said in a 2014 profile on SPS News.

After graduating in 2013, Mitchell moved back to the West Coast, and he has recently started working as the Assistant Director of Interprofessional Practice and Education at the Western University of Health Sciences, Northwest, in Lebanon, Oregon.

In an email, Mitchell wrote that his new job will require him "to deliver the IPE program and develop in-house faculty committees on the Lebanon campus." He will be organizing and training facilitators, and looking to the future, he hopes to develop Narrative Medicine programming for the University's campuses in Oregon and Pomona, California.
