How Sree Sreenivasan's Online Presence Will Lead to His Next Job

Throughout his career, Sree Sreenivasan has been an innovator. His work as a tech reporter, Columbia School of Journalism professor, and as the first Chief Digital Officer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, has shown that storytelling comes in a variety of mediums, whether through Facebook’s news feed or photos on Instagram.

In February 2016, he delivered the Master Class lecture for the Nonprofit Management master’s program at Columbia’s School of Professional Studies, as part of The Wired Nonprofit. In a sit-down Q&A with professor Marcia Stepanek, he described his work as “understanding the pace of change… you have to embrace it if you want to be successful.”

Sreenivasan stepped down from the Met in June as part of budget cuts, and where he’s going next is a point of interest. Quartz took a look at how he controlled the narrative. Sreenivasan used his lively social media presence on Facebook and beyond to announce that he was leaving the Met, and to outline his next steps. Most importantly, he said that he was open to meetings. This transparency will lead to Sreenivasan’s next leadership opportunity, and it’s a method that students, faculty, and the SPS community can learn from in regards to their own careers.
