How to Resolve Conflict Through Listening

In a new podcast episode of Conversations From the Leading Edge, Columbia Social Psychologist and Negotiation and Conflict Resolution faculty member Peter Coleman interviews his NECR colleague José Pascal da Rocha on "Role-playing Games and Conflict Resolution."

In the interview, Coleman teases apart da Rocha's vast background, which includes several graduate degrees and 15 years of boots-on-the-ground experience as an Intercultural Mission Advisor for the German Armed Forces. Da Rocha discusses how his separate negotiation skills, such as listening and planning, are even more powerful when the conflict is crafted into a story. Coleman points out that storytelling is a through line in all of da Rocha's experiences, from advising Fortune 500 companies to mediating in the UN Department of Political Affairs.
