Applications for 2024 Columbia Summer Session programs are now open!

Close alert

A Message from the Office of the Dean

Dear SPS Community:

As COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is undoubtedly on the minds of most on campus and beyond, I would like to address the following three items pertinent to SPS, which align with information provided on the University’s new “COVID-19 Guidance for the Columbia Community” page.

Instruction

Classes are in session. Students and faculty are expected to proceed with regular class schedules at this time. Students may address individual concerns with their instructors and faculty may do the same with their program heads.

Travel

All upcoming travel outside the United States organized, led, or financed by Columbia is suspended until further notice. I encourage you to register personal international travel and review the University’s “Additional Travel Guidance” page for alerts and information.

Events

Events for students, faculty, and staff on the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses may continue, as planned, or be postponed at the discretion of the organizers.

The University’s page includes a “Group Gatherings” section, offering recommendations for hosting, postponing, or cancelling an event.

In considering whether or not to cancel an event, please evaluate all COVID-19 updated reports and, as a reminder, University Event Management will not charge for space or timely catering cancellations. If you have questions about events you are hosting, please refer to the University Event Management page for additional information.

Should you wish to discuss your event options, below are several SPS resources available to you:

  • Faculty and Academic Events - Erik Nelson

  • Student Clubs and Organizations - Rollie Carencia

  • Career Design Lab Events - Brian Brown

  • Events Management Supported Events - Evelina Freeman

We recognize the challenges COVID-19 brings and reiterate that the health and safety of our community is the top priority. As the situation develops, we will continue to assess the information and provide additional updates to the SPS community.

Sincerely,

jw

Jason Wingard, Ph.D.
