Congratulations to Columbia SPS Staff Marathoners

At least five SPS staff members ran marathons this year, with four completing the NYC Marathon last weekend and one running the Berlin Marathon in September. Josh Alexander, associate dean of students, ran two marathons this year: NYC last weekend and the Jersey City Marathon last spring.

Congratulations to all SPS staff for their tremendous accomplishments outside the office!

Below, learn about some memorable marathon moments from these incredible runners.

Josh Alexander, Associate Dean of Students | NYC and Jersey City Marathons

This was my 9th NYC Marathon (and 13th total marathon) and I had so much fun with the cooler weather this year! I actually ran the whole time without stopping for a walking break, which I think might be a first for me. Finished in 4:07:27!

Jennifer Birmingham, Senior Executive Director, Communications and Creative Services | Berlin Marathon

After running 25 miles on my own, I spotted my daughter directly ahead of me. We ran the final mile and crossed the finish line together!

Rollie Carencia, Executive Director, Student Life | NYC Marathon

Favorite part of the marathon was seeing family, friends and colleagues in the crowd cheering you on!

Milko Milkov, Executive Director, Finance | NYC Marathon

The TCS NYC Marathon is a celebration for runners. The crowd. The energy. The city. The camaraderie on the course. Every year I find more and more things I like about this race. The streak continues.

Laura Scherling, Director of Administration, M.S. in Applied Analytics | NYC Marathon

My earbuds broke at the start line, and I was so nervous. But it ended up being a silver lining. The NYC Marathon is absolutely the best and the energy of the crowd was fantastic! I had so much fun and met so many other amazing runners. I'm proud to do the 9+1 program for NYRR for several years now.
