From Columbia’s HCM Program to Real-World Promotion: Rima Rahayu

Coming from Indonesia and graduating from Columbia University's Master of Science in Human Capital Management (HCM) program in August 2020, Rima Rahayu now works as a Human Capital Integrated System & People Analytics Assistant Manager in her home country. She remarks, “I was recently promoted to the People Analytics Role. People don't usually get a promotion after their study assignments from my company. I am honored to be promoted right after I finished; Columbia’s program helped me achieve that.”

Rima explains the value of the People Analytics course she took as part of the program, both in leading to her promotion, and giving her the skills and knowledge she now uses in her role. She shares, “In Indonesia, People Analytics is considered as a new way to improve processes in Human Capital. Our CHRO stated that one of our key objectives is to develop a People Analytics project to support the business amid the pandemic. The company trusted me with the role because I had experienced building People Analytics Projects from scratch throughout my People Analytics course at Columbia.”

Columbia HCM’s coursework also gave Rima confidence in managing teams and working effectively. She stresses that, “Working in a diverse team taught me about tolerance, persistence, and open-mindedness. I learned about perseverance, and I believe that it is one of the keys to success in our career.”

To those considering Columbia University's Master of Science in HCM program, Rima advises, “If you want to experience being taught by leading practitioners in the HCM area, who have extensive  experience in Fortune 500 companies across industries, then this program is for you! I had done my research, comparing HCM masters programs in some world-leading universities, and I found that Columbia has the most complete courses, lecturers who are professional practitioners, and the perfect program length (One year for  full-time students).” Rima encourages all future and current Columbia HCM students to, “Be prepared to experience learning in a  diverse environment. You’ll find it both challenging  and rewarding!”
