Advance your studies, expand your network, and experience New York City cultural institutions with Columbia scholars through the Columbia University Summer Session, a special co-curricular program for students and professionals alike. Students can make campus their home while they embark on their studies, access special performances, and explore New York through the lens of scholars. Students can take advantage of all that the City offers, as they participate safely in social gatherings and connect with other students from around the world. “Giving students the opportunity to explore their passions—in more than 50 different subject areas—is a unique opportunity. We are excited to offer academic learning in the classroom, and through events on and off campus, to students around the globe,” said Dr. Erik T. Nelson, Sr. Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Columbia University students are invited to work with their academic advisors to determine eligibility and course of study.
The program also welcomes visiting students from across the globe and the U.S. to participate in a program that fits their educational and professional goals. Students may acquire practical experience and career coaching tailored to support their academic and professional aspirations, whether they are undergraduate or graduate students visiting from another institution or adults and professionals seeking to enhance their skills over the summer through the Postbaccalaureate program. A special Career Design Workshop will provide tools and insights for those in the Visiting Students program to develop a resume or a graduate application that attracts attention; hone a personal pitch; refine interview skills; obtain professional LinkedIn headshots, and more. Special study programs are also available for high school students.
During the Summer Session, students can explore their passions in disciplines ranging from art and culture to science and finance while they advance their studies, make new friends and experience the City. Enhanced experiential events allow students to interact with Columbia faculty and explore New York landmarks and institutions—from Wall Street to Broadway, and from museums to medicine—as seen through an academic perspective. Guided by university scholars, students can tour cultural landmarks and explore the university’s state-of-the-art science research facilities where renowned Columbia faculty conduct their studies and educate the next generation.
