Bioethics Student, Edward Martinez, M.D., Appointed To ASRM Ethics Committee

Congratulations to Edward Martinez, MD, '22SPS, Bioethics, on his new appointment as a member of the  American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Ethics Committee. 

For the next three years, Martinez will provide input to the ASRM Board of Directors regarding ethical issues relevant to reproductive health and medicine. Within this  Ethics Committee, members  will  develop policy addressing the many ethical issues concerning Assisted Reproductive Technologies. Key work performed within the committee includes ethics opinion documents and consulting on derivative materials.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Assisted Reproductive Technologies include, “all fertility treatments in which either eggs or embryos are handled,” such as surgically removing eggs from a woman’s ovaries, combining them with sperm in a lab, and returning them to a woman’s body or donating them.
