Announcing the Columbia SPS CUNY Fellowship

Columbia University School of Professional Studies is pleased to introduce a new fellowship program, the Columbia SPS CUNY Fellowship, for the 2024–2025 school year. Building on the success of the Columbia HBCU Fellowship, this program aims to provide high-achieving recent City University of New York (CUNY) college graduates with bachelor’s or master’s degrees access to Columbia’s vast academic, professional, and community resources.

“We are thrilled to launch this new fellowship program for CUNY graduates,” said Troy Eggers, dean of Columbia University School of Professional Studies. “Aligned with President Minouche Shafik’s vision for the University, this program will give fellow New Yorkers from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to join Columbia and to add their valued perspectives to our community.”

The City University of New York is the largest urban public higher-education institution, and one of the oldest, in the country. It provides quality education and social mobility to thousands of New Yorkers every year.

“CUNY has a proud history of providing social mobility for generations of families and lifting New York City. Our smart, well-prepared graduates are often eager to continue their education and this fellowship will provide them with another option to advance their studies without leaving the city they call home,” said Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, chancellor of the City University of New York. “We are grateful to Columbia University School of Professional Studies for recognizing our talent by creating a fellowship exclusively for CUNY students and we look forward to more partnerships with private institutions to strengthen New York.”

For the inaugural year, six students will be chosen for the program. The fellows will be eligible to participate, full-time or part-time, in SPS master’s degree programs including Applied Analytics, Bioethics, Enterprise Risk Management, Insurance Management, Narrative Medicine, Negotiation and Conflict Resolution, Political Analytics, Sports Management, Sustainability Management, and Wealth Management, among many others.

High-touch networking sessions and professional development will be components of the program to assist the fellows beyond the classroom. Columbia tuition and fees, including medical insurance, will be covered.

“SPS has a long history of providing access to a Columbia education for a diverse group of students,” says Zelon Crawford, senior associate dean of Student Affairs at SPS. “With the Columbia SPS CUNY Fellowship program, we are excited to build another bridge to Columbia for our New York City neighbors.”

The application deadline is June 1, 2024. Learn more about the Columbia SPS CUNY Fellowship program here and sign up for our information session on February 20, 2024 here.
