American Language Program Faculty Present at TESOL, AAAL

The week of March 21st saw a number of ALP faculty presenting at two conferences on language learning and teaching in Pittsburgh, PA.

The TESOL International Convention & English Language Expo is the preeminent annual event in the field of English-language teaching, and the theme of this year’s conference was "Inspiring Innovation; Empowering ELT Professionals." ALP faculty gave the following presentations: 

  • Adjunct Associate Yasmeen Coaxum: "Digitally Mediated Dialogues: Collaborative Inquiry of 4 BIPOC TESOL Professionals" & "Using Online Flipped Learning to Facilitate Student-Produced Podcasts"
  • Lecturer Christopher W. Collins: "Using Nonfiction Books to Facilitate Acquisition, Interaction, and Fluency"
  • Lecturer Carolyn Dunn: "Taking the Challenge to Foster Intrinsic Motivation and Learner Autonomy"
  • Lecturers Babi Kruchin & Brittany Ober: "Peer Feedback: An Overlooked Assessment Tool"
  • Senior Lecturer Shelley Saltzman: "English L2 Writing in Specific Contexts: Lessons Learned During COVID-19" & "Teaching the Skills Needed for a 21st-Century Career Search"
  • Adjunct Associate Tristan Thorne: "Jumpstarting Student-Directed Pronunciation Learning" & "Supporting Linguistic Inclusivity in Higher Education: Implementing Strategic Initiatives"

Meanwhile at the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL) conference, Carol Hoi Yee Lo presented a paper on her doctoral studies: "Halt VS. Hold: How Gestures Safeguard Contiguity."
