Lecturer; Director of Risk Management, UGI
Umesh Akki heads the risk management function and is responsible for the development and implementation of an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program across UGI Corporation and each of the four lines of business at UGI. He focuses on establishing a governance and oversight structure, risk policies, and risk analytics as well as developing an ERM liaison network within the businesses. He has over 18 years of experience with risk management that is spread across energy companies including regulated utilities as well as investment banks. His experience spans in areas of market risk, strategic and operational risk as well as risk control and risk analytics aspects of commodity trading operations.
Prior to joining UGI Corporation he held leadership roles in risk management at Exelon Corporation where he led the efforts to implement an ERM framework at Exelon and its regulated utility subsidiaries. He has also led risk management teams in areas of risk control and risk analytics at Constellation Energy, the commercial trading and portfolio management group of Exelon Corporation. He also held management positions in risk at Bank of Montreal and RBS in New York and Stamford, respectively.
In addition to holding a Ph.D., M.B.A., M.S., and B.Tech., Akki also holds a Diploma in Computer Applications from the National Institute for Training in Industrial Engineering, Mumbai, India.
