Sonay Aykan

Lecturer; Associate Director, Sustainability and ESG, Colgate-Palmolive Company

Sonay Aykan is a sustainability expert and believes in creating a more sustainable future by translating environmental and social impacts into business growth. Aykan leverages his academic expertise, research mindset, and problem solving skills to be a change agent in organizations, linking the interests of multiple stakeholders to incentivize change toward a new organizational vision where sustainability becomes a part of everyday practices. Aykan currently serves as associate director of sustainability and ESG at Colgate-Palmolive Company, overseeing the creation, management, and disclosure of sustainability data, as well as the integration of sustainability metrics into business risks and opportunities. Aykan leads the efforts to embed the UN Sustainable Development Goals into Colgate’s sustainability and social impact strategy by creating roadmaps and educational material. Aykan has a Ph.D. in urban systems from Rutgers & NJIT, an M.A. in sociology and a B.A. in economics from Bogazici University. He also holds a SASB FSA credential. He is an avid cyclist.
