Shelley A. Saltzman
Senior Lecturer; Associate Director for University Partnerships, Columbia University
Dr. Shelley A. Saltzman, a Senior Lecturer with 25+ years of teaching experience, specializes in English for Specific Purposes and Advanced Academic Writing. As Associate Director for University Partnerships, she works with Columbia University’s undergraduate (e.g. General Studies), graduate (e.g. SPS-MS in Strategic Communication), and professional schools (e.g. Law) to develop curricula that meet the specific needs of their international students. For her work in Legal English, she received the 2015 Global Legal Skills Award for Outstanding Contributions to International Legal Skills Education.
At the ALP, she has taught English at every level of instruction, from beginner (CEFR A1) to advanced (CEFR C2). Having previously worked for ETS (TOEFL -TWE) and the College Board (AP-IEL), Dr. Saltzman is currently on the Higher Education Advisory Council of IELTS. She also was Director of ALP –Tokyo, when the University had a branch in Japan.
Dr. Saltzman is a frequent presenter at campus, national, and international conferences and lecture series, most recently In China and Mexico. At Columbia, she serves on several university-wide committees, including the Education Committee of the Faculty Senate.
During Columbia’s bicentennial, students chose Dr. Saltzman as one of “The 250 Columbians Who Have Made a Difference.”
