Sara M. Bergstresser, PhD, MPH, MS

Lecturer, Bioethics

Sara M. Bergstresser teaches “Disability & Bioethics” and “Mental Health Ethics” in the Master of Science in Bioethics program at Columbia University, and she is also a program alum (SPS‘14). She earned a PhD in Anthropology from Brown University and a Masters of Public Health from Harvard University. She was an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow in Mental Health Policy at Harvard Medical School and in Psychiatric Epidemiology at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health. From 2017-2019, Sara was Lecturer and Program Coordinator for Bioethics Education in the Faculty of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Sara's articles have appeared in multiple journals including The American Journal of Bioethics, The International Journal of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics, Asian Bioethics Review, Developing World Bioethics, Psychiatric Services, and The Journal of Health and Social Behavior. Her research addresses the intersection of health and society, including global bioethics, mental health policy and stigma, and disability studies.
