Robert Duncan

Lecturer

Robert Duncan serves as the Chief Information Security Officer for Direct Line Group plc, a FTSE 100 constituent and the largest general insurer in the United Kingdom. Robert is responsible for the overall Information Security Strategy for the group as well as Data Privacy, in addition to other Operational Risk and Assurance teams. His wider remit also includes Operational Resilience and the European General Data Protection Legislation compliance.

He is also very active on the European speaking circuit, attending and speaking at events such as the Financial Times Cyber Security Summit, the e-Crimes congress, EU focused conferences in Brussels and various others. Robert is also a non-executive director of ORIC International, based in London, the world's leading provider of specialist operational risk resources and benchmarking services.

Robert has extensive international experience, having been based in New York, London, Hong Kong and Australia. Prior to Direct Line Group, he was CISO for the Euronext Stock Exchange Group which operates regulated markets in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Portugal and the U.K. and lists roughly 4 trillion USD of financial products. He was also Head of Global Risk and Governance for Prudential plc PGDS division for many years, supporting the division globally with extensive travel of Asia and the U.S. He holds an LLB in Law (London), MBA (Cranfield), and a post-graduate qualification in Executive IT Management from Columbia University in New York.

Robert is currently a candidate for a Doctor of Business Administration at Bocconi University, Milan, Italy where he is undertaking research focused on Operational Resilience and Cyber Incident Response and Recovery, particularly as it aligns to regulators and law enforcement agencies.
