Melissa Miller

Corporate Vice President & Actuary, New York Life

Melissa Miller is a Corporate Vice President & Actuary at New York Life Insurance Company, one of the largest mutual life insurers in the United States.

Melissa has worked as an actuary at New York Life for over 11 years and has experience in annuity pricing, experience studies, asset liability modeling and underwriting.

Melissa is currently the head of the Life Experience Studies team at New York Life.  She is responsible for the development, maintenance and distribution of liability assumptions for the life business.  She also provides analytical support to business teams including underwriting, reinsurance and product development.  Melissa has led her team to expand the use of experience monitoring in order to deploy resources more strategically in experience analysis.

Melissa’s previous role at New York Life was in underwriting where she analyzed the use of predictive models in underwriting, such as accelerated underwriting models and mortality prediction models. She performed protective value studies, proposed changes to underwriting requirements and supported monitoring efforts.

Melissa is the Lecturer for the Insurance Risk Management class at Columbia University.  She started as an associate for the class in Spring 2019 and became lecturer in Spring 2022.

Melissa is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
