Mark V. Sauer

Faculty Affiliate, Bioethics; Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

Mark V. Sauer has been a pioneer in the field of donor oocyte and embryo transfer and achieved the world's first donor egg pregnancies in menopausal women. His published works include titles such as “Payment of egg donors in stem cell research in the USA” (Reprod Biomed Online, 2009), “Human oocytes reprogram somatic cells to a pluripotent state” (Nature, 2011), and “A preliminary report on oocyte donation extending reproductive potential to women over forty” (New England Medical Journal, 1990).

Sauer is the Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology, the Program Director at the Center for Women’s Reproductive Care, and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology. He has served as consulting editor or ad hoc member on the editorial boards of numerous scientific journals and has authored hundreds of articles. 

Sauer received his medical degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Illinois Hospital. He completed his fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at the University of California at Los Angeles.
