John Hicks, CFRE

With more than 30 years of experience in fundraising, John W. Hicks, CFRE, provides consultation and strategic guidance for annual and capital fundraising programs. Additionally, he counsels not-for-profits on building managerial, fundraising, and board capacity.
Hicks is a member of the faculty of Columbia University’s M.S. Nonprofit Management program. He appears a featured presenter for Candid and a speaker at nonprofit conferences in the U.S. and abroad. He has been awarded Stellar Speaker status by The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Hicks is a contributing author to After the Grant (Candid, 2010) and to The Nonprofit Handbook: Fund Raising (Wiley, 2001).
A Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), Hicks is a former member of the Board of Directors of AFP International (Association of Fundraising Professionals) and is a past President of the AFP New York City Chapter. He is the recipient of AFP-New York City’s Ralph Chamberlain Award in recognition of his contributions to AFP and the field.
He holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Hartford and has completed professional education courses with the Lake Forest School of Management and Harvard University’s Program on Negotiation.
