John Hicks

Lecturer; Principal and Chief Strategist, DLBHICKS, LLC

With nearly thirty years of experience in fundraising, John W. Hicks, CFRE, provides consultation and strategic guidance for annual and capital fundraising programs. Additionally, he counsels not-for-profits on building managerial, fundraising, and board capacity.

Hicks is a member of the faculty of Columbia University’s Nonprofit Management program. He has appeared as a featured presenter for The Foundation Center and has spoken at nonprofit conferences in the U.S. and abroad. He has been awarded Stellar Speaker status by The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Hicks is a contributing author to After the Grant (Foundation Center, 2010) and to The Nonprofit Handbook: Fund Raising (Wiley, 2001).

A Certified Fund Raising Executive, Hicks is a former member of the Board of Directors of AFP International and is a past President of the AFP New York City Chapter. In 2003 and 2004, he served as Chair of Fundraising Day in New York, the nation’s largest one-day conference on philanthropy. He holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Hartford and has completed professional education courses with the Lake Forest School of Management and Harvard University’s Program on Negotiation.
