Dara Mendeloff

Lecturer, Sustainability Management; GIS Specialist, Center for International Earth Science Information Network

At The Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), Dara Mendeloff has run GIS training workshops, developed web map clients, written geoprocessing scripts in python, and conducted data collections and quality checks on topics such as Low-Elevation Coastal Zones and Infant Mortality Rates. Prior to her work at Columbia, Mendeloff worked as a GIS technician/analyst at the New York City Department of City Planning where she was responsible for data creation and management of GIS datasets for the representation of NYC’s Zoning Map, Section Map and City Map features. Additionally, she has served as a GIS technician with Dr. Yuri Gorokhovich, an associate research scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory as well as with the New York/New Jersey Clean Ocean and Shore Trust. She also conducted remote sensing and served as a GIS analyst at Panthera, a company that uses scientific leadership and global conservation action to ensure the future of wild cats. Mendeloff was an adjunct professor in the department of geography at CUNY Hunter College where she taught a graduate level “Introduction to GIS” course in 2010.

Mendeloff is a member of the North American Cartographic Information Society.
