Carol Sanger

Carol Sanger's teaching areas include contracts, family law, and courses focusing on reproduction, the legal profession, and law and gender. Her recent scholarship has focused on the regulation of maternal conduct, the regulation of abortion, surrogacy and law's relation to culture.
Sanger is a member of the executive board of the Institute for Research on Women and Gender. She was a fellow of the Program on Law and Public Affairs at Princeton University in 2003 and a Plumer Fellow of St. Anne's College at Oxford in 2008. She was awarded the Willis Reese Teaching Prize by the graduating class of Columbia Law School in 2007.
Prior to joining Columbia University in 1996, Sanger taught at Santa Clara University Law School, the University of Oregon and Stanford University Law School, where she was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Research on Women and Gender.
