Barrie Adleberg

Instructor and Interaction Designer, Digital Storytelling Lab, Columbia School of the Arts

Barrie Adleberg is a multimedia artist, experience designer, educator, and activist. She collaborates with multidisciplinary producers to bring crosscultural stories to life, using emerging technologies.

Adleberg completed graduate research in children’s educational media at Georgetown University, where she studied the intersection of Computer Science and Developmental Psychology. Her work explores how kids learn and create identities through mixed-reality play. She has produced pop-up makerspaces, hackathons, national video game design challenges, and youth coding competitions. Her credits include You Are Here (2017), Lyka’s Adventure (2015-17), The National STEM Video Game Challenge (2015), Gamestar Mechanic Jr. (2015), StitchFest (2014), Scratch Day (2013/14), Connected Messages (2013), and The Democracy Project (2012).

Adleberg was the recipient of a postgraduate fellowship from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania where she produced youth S.T.E.A.M. programming with the Free Library of Philadelphia and The Franklin Institute. Her research has received National Science Foundation funding, and is published in the ACM Digital Library and Kidscreen Magazine.
