Balmatee Bidassie, PhD, PMP, LSSMBB

Lecturer

Dr. Balmatee Bidassie is the President and CEO of Data Analytics & Process Improvement Consulting Company.  From 2016 – 2022, Balmatee was a faculty in the College of Engineering at Western Michigan University. From 2010-2018, Bidassie held several leadership positions at the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration (VHA). During her tenure with the VHA, Bidassie was the lead strategist and a Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt on various national initiatives for the Clinical Partnership for Healthcare Transformation. She also served as a supervisory industrial engineer and program manager with various national program offices within the VHA.

Prior to the VA, Bidassie worked in the areas of computer science, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, academics, statistics, research, safety and health, healthcare, project management, and operations. At Eaton Corporation, she worked with global functional groups and in various leadership positions.  As the portfolio manager of Global Engineering/IT programs, she formulated Engineering-IT strategies and implemented global product life cycle management applications. As a global Certified LEAN Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Bidassie was responsible for developing, leading, coaching, and facilitating Design for Six Sigma (Product Development), Lean Manufacturing, and Lean Six Sigma projects as well as mentoring 300+ candidates toward certification.

Balmatee serves as an industry advisor/mentor to the Society of Women Engineers at various universities and the Women in Engineering Program at Purdue University.  Her research focuses on safety and health process improvement initiatives with a focus on action research in the healthcare industry. Bidassie served as the Director of Operations/IT Manager to support key management and initiatives with the Social Intervention Group at Columbia University School of Social Work, New York City.

Balmatee received her doctorate from Purdue University (Industrial Engineering), and two master’s degrees from Columbia University of New York:  Master of Arts (Statistics), Master of Science (Electrical Engineering) and Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from City University of New York.  Her hobbies include golfing, traveling, and scuba diving.
