Webinar: Study Regional Environmental Sustainability in the Middle East in Summer 2018
This summer, current students from across Columbia University will have the opportunity to visit Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian Territories, to experience firsthand the social and political challenges facing policymakers and practitioners in the region.
Columbia students will learn alongside students from Tel Aviv University, who will also participate in this joint course.
Applications of interest are being accepted through March 9, 2018. Preference will be given to graduate students with a demonstrated interest in environmental conflict resolution and sustainability. Exceptional upper level undergraduates will also be considered. The course will take place in Israel and Jordan from July 1 to 14, 2018. Three mandatory preparatory days will take place in New York on June 11, 13 and 14.
The course provides an ideal opportunity to learn about:
- the ways in which natural resource and environmental issues span geographical boundaries;
- how political conflicts may create, sustain, and escalate these resource problems; and
- the role the environment can play in future negotiations toward constructive, peaceful, and sustainable outcomes

Regional Environmental Sustainability in the Middle East (NECR PS5260) is a fieldwork course developed and run in partnership with Columbia’s Master of Science in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution program, The Earth Institute, and Tel Aviv University’s Porter School of Environmental Studies.
