Webinar: Fieldwork in Crossfire—A View of Political Violence from Inside and Out
For many people worldwide, violence is an essential element of their political identity.
During this webinar, Dr. Gorka Roman, professor at the University of the Basque Country, will describe the violent events and situations he has faced, as both an individual and as a researcher, and analyze the social, cultural, and political “reality” of the Basque ancient nation, home to the last armed conflict in Europe. Through this lived experience, real but also “nationally imagined,” Dr. Roman will describe how easily violence can construct and mold political identities in the Basque arena, and in any other society where cultural, ethnic, or political difference has been used to create national otherness.
