VOLVOX: Making Narrative Medicine Happen Alumni Speaker Series
Health Literacy and Racism: Designing a Symposium to Advance Equity
Speaker: Jade Dickensen, MS'22
Moderator: Cherie Henderson, PhD, MS'14
Discriminatory practices in health literacy and communication can leave ill people and caregivers of color marginalized and underserved.
In this session, Jade Dickenson will share the planning that shaped a symposium by Say Ah!, a nonprofit organization committed to promoting a racially just healthcare system.
This symposium explored narrative’s role in framing racism and health literacy, anti-racist health literacy practices, and tools to help participants change the narrative. Dickenson will explain how the Say Ah! Team chose themes, framed goals, and integrated narrative practice with the goal of reimagining narratives to promote healing and advance health equity.
