VOLVOX: Making Narrative Medicine Happen Alumni Speaker Series

Families & Clinicians Together, Oh My! Co-Learning in pediatric Complex Care

Cara Coleman, JD, MPH, CPA'23 with Stephanie Adler Yuan, MS'15

Treating a single illness can require myriad professional and family caregivers. Training that fosters mutual understanding among these many team members can transform outcomes and experiences for patients and families. Cara Coleman and Stephanie Adler Yuan will take us through a workshop series that united clinicians and family members of children with medical complexity to create a foundation for co-learning.  Using core concepts of patient- and family-centered care, grounded in a framework of pediatric complex-care entrustable professional activities, this project identified fundamental changes in participants’ understanding of what it means to perform essential-care activities.
