Understanding Pathways of Violence: Lessons from Rwanda
During this webinar, Marc Gwamaka will reflect on his work with young Rwandans, which focuses on supporting thoughtful engagement with the past and fostering dialogue and understanding across generations in contemporary Rwanda. His research-informed practice has included contributing to the development of a museum initiative designed to help young people explore the country’s history in nuanced and inclusive ways.
A central aspect of this work involves accompanying young people whose families have been deeply affected by past violence and social rupture, particularly as communities continue processes of return and reintegration. This includes attention to the social challenges and forms of stigma that some young people experience. Marc has also created a documentary project that brings together voices from different generations to reflect on memory, healing, and the possibilities of living together in the aftermath of profound societal change.
Discussion moderated by Peter Dixon, Ph.D., Program Director, M.S. in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution; Associate Professor of Practice.
