NECR Webinar: Women's Leadership and Empowerment in Peace Processes in the Post-Soviet Space: The Cases of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Moldova
Join us in March when NECR program director Dr. Beth Fisher-Yoshida discusses negotiation with Visiting Scholar, Julia Vassileva.
The webinar discusses Julia’s research, which investigates the low levels of women’s inclusion in peace negotiations in post-Soviet states, focusing on conflicts in regions such as Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh, and Transnistria. Based on fieldwork she conducted in Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Moldova (over 120 interviews), it highlights the unique challenges women face in these high-stakes negotiations. The research comes amid global rising tensions, particularly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which has highlighted unresolved conflicts in post-Soviet Eastern Europe. The work seeks to bridge theory and practice by detailing the barriers to women’s participation, and it speaks to the importance of ensuring more effective, sustainable, and inclusive peace negotiations in the region and beyond.
The Zoom link for this webinar will be distributed to registered attendees 24 hours before the event.
